Political Pundits in Social Media

Social media has completely changed the future of politics and political media. In recent years, social media has become an essential aspect of political campaigns, taking the place of print media and television. The popular app Twitter has become a huge political platform, allowing politicians, citizens, and the press to communicate freely on a public platform.

With the technological advancements within the political world, pundits have also taken advantage of the new platforms to express their opinions to the public. A pundit is an expert on a particular subject who authoritatively gives their opinion using mass media.

Pundits are now using social media to reach bigger audiences, and expand their platforms to deliver information that will appeal to younger demographics, and allow them to keep up with the fast-changing world of social media.

Pundits gained traction on social media in the 2020 presidential election cycle, feeding off the exciting and entertaining race between President Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Since then, political pundits have developed large followings and expanded their platforms to continue distributing their opinions and covering political events in America.

Political Hype Houses of TikTok

One of the biggest platforms in social media right now is TikTok. TikTok attracts a young demographic, with over 60% of users between the ages of 16-24.

Named after the popular influencer collab house on TikTok, the Republican Hype House is a group of teenagers dedicated to voicing their opinions about their political views.

During the 2020 presidential election, the Republican Hype House took over TikTok showing their support for Donald Trump.

The page responded to events throughout the election and posted funny videos, creating satirical content about Liberal candidates and their supporters.

One of the most interesting things about the political hype houses of TikTok is the young age of the founders and members. Most of the members of each hype house are under 18, and unable to vote. Their participation and opinions about the presidential election were remarkably mature for their age, and they appealed to younger demographics by presenting their content through popular trends, dances, and sounds on TikTok.

Even though these teenagers could not place their vote during the 2020 presidential election, they contributed and created a huge impact on social media, appealing to older demographics who could vote during the term.
